Role-Playing Games
2300 AD is a science fiction tabletop role-playing game created by Game Designers' Workshop and first published in 1986 under the title Traveller: 2300. The company took the storyline of its 1984 post-apocalyptic game Twilight: 2000 and moved it forward three centuries, to a time when humanity has recovered enough from a nuclear war to travel to nearby star systems. Despite the title it had no ties to the company's earlier Traveller and used a completely different game system, which caused confusion, so a second edition in 1988 was retitled 2300 AD. The original boxed set held a player manual, a referee's manual, a forms book, a near star list, an introductory adventure called The Tricolour's Shadow, a star map and a ten-sided die. It sold poorly compared with Traveller.
