Toronto Waterfront Marathon

Road Races and Marathons

The Toronto Waterfront Marathon is a road-running race held in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, every year on the second or third Sunday of October. Besides the full marathon, the event includes a half-marathon, and from 2024 the organizers added a 5K race on the Saturday, with the marathon and half-marathon on Sunday. It is considered Canada's most prestigious road race and also serves as the nation's time-trial event during Olympic cycles. The race is one of the elite label marathons in the World Athletics Label Road Races. It has produced several notable marks: the 2013 winner Deressa Chimsa set a men's course record that was the fastest marathon ever run on Canadian soil, the 2011 winner Koren Jelela Yal set the women's course record, Ed Whitlock set multiple age-group world records there, and in 2018 Cam Levins broke Jerome Drayton's 43-year-old Canadian men's marathon record. The in-person 2020 race was cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic and replaced by virtual races.
