Xie Jun is a Chinese chess grandmaster born October 30, 1970, in Baoding, Hebei, and the first Asian woman to earn the grandmaster title, achieved in 1994. She held the Women's World Chess Championship across two separate reigns, from 1991 to 1996 after defeating Maia Chiburdanidze, and again from 1999 to 2001 after defeating Alisa Galliamova, and is one of only three women ever to hold the title in more than one separate reign. She was inducted into the World Chess Hall of Fame in 2019 and serves as president of the Chinese Chess Association.
