Winston Bogarde

Winston Bogarde is a retired Dutch footballer, born in Rotterdam in 1970, who played as a centre-back and occasionally as a left-back over a career recognized for his physical strength. He played for Ajax, AC Milan, Barcelona and Chelsea, winning the UEFA Champions League with Ajax in 1994-95 and the La Liga title with Barcelona in both the 1997-98 and 1998-99 seasons, as well as the Copa del Rey in 1997-98. He earned 20 international caps for the Netherlands and represented his country at UEFA Euro 1996 and the 1998 FIFA World Cup. Bogarde became widely known during his final Chelsea seasons, from 2000 to 2004, when he received almost no playing time, including no Premier League appearances at all in his last three seasons there, yet chose to see out his lucrative contract rather than seek a transfer, reportedly earning around 40,000 pounds a week while rarely playing.
