Walter Dix

Track and Field Disciplines

Walter Dix, born on January 31, 1986, is a retired American sprinter who specialized in the 100 meters and 200 meters. His 200 meter best of 19.53 seconds makes him the eighth-fastest runner ever over that distance, and he has run under ten seconds for 100 meters with a best of 9.88. After a highly successful amateur career, in which he set a state record, broke the American junior record for 100 meters and set an NCAA record of 19.69 seconds for 200 meters, he swept the 100 meters, 200 meters and 4 x 100 metre relay at the 2007 NCAA Outdoor Championships. He turned professional in 2008 and won two bronze medals at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, the only American track athlete to win two individual medals at those Games. In 2011 he was national champion in both sprints and won silver medals at the World Championships.
