Vern Gardner was an American professional basketball player who was born on May 14, 1925, in Afton, Wyoming, and died on August 26, 1987. A right-handed shooting guard listed at 6 feet 5 inches and 200 pounds, he attended Star Valley High School in Afton and played college basketball at the University of Utah. The Philadelphia Warriors selected him sixth overall in the first round of the 1949 BAA draft, and he made his debut in the National Basketball Association on November 2, 1949. His career lasted three seasons, from 1949 to 1952, all with the Philadelphia Warriors, over which he appeared in 151 regular season games and averaged 8.9 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. His most productive year was 1949-50, when he played 63 games and averaged 13.5 points.
