Uwe Seeler was a German footballer and football official, born on 5 November 1936 and died on 21 July 2022. Playing as a striker, he was a prolific scorer for Hamburger SV and earned 72 appearances for the West Germany national team. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest players in the history of German football, and in 2004 the Brazilian Pele named him among FIFA's 100 greatest living players. He was also the first football player to be awarded the Commander's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany.
