Tyson Chandler is an American former professional basketball player and coach, born on October 2, 1982, who stood seven feet tall and played center. He grew up in Hanford, California, and starred at Dominguez High School in Compton, where he led his team to a state championship and was selected to the McDonald's High School All-America Team before declaring for the draft straight out of high school. As starting center for Dallas he played an integral role in the franchise's first NBA championship in 2011. He was named to the NBA All-Defensive Team three times, and with New York he was voted NBA Defensive Player of the Year in 2012. For the United States national team he won gold at the 2010 FIBA World Championship and at the 2012 Summer Olympics.
