Tony Hayden

Tony Hayden was a Gaelic footballer from County Leitrim, Ireland, who represented his county and his province, Connacht, with distinction. He played in two Railway Cup finals, in 1954 and 1955, and was a member of the Leitrim side that played in four Connacht Senior Football Championship finals in a row between 1957 and 1960, losing each time, as he did in the inter-provincial competition, to the great Galway side that won five in a row. At club level he captained his native Bornacoola to the Leitrim Senior Football Championship and league double in 1957, and three years earlier he helped Craobh Rua win the Sligo senior crown across the county border. He was picked at left half back on the Leitrim Team of the Millennium.
