Tina Charles (basketball)

Court and Net Team Sports

Tina Charles is an American former professional basketball player, born on 5 December 1988 and originally from Jamaica, Queens, in New York City. She was selected first overall by the Connecticut Sun in the 2010 WNBA draft. At the University of Connecticut she and teammate Maya Moore led the Huskies to two undefeated national championships, in 2009 and 2010. She won three Olympic gold medals with the United States team, and in 2024 she headed the first class inducted into the NYC Basketball Hall of Fame, the first woman to head a class at any major basketball hall of fame and the first active player ever inducted. Many consider her the best player in WNBA history never to have appeared in the Finals, and on 21 August 2024 she became the second-highest scorer in the history of the league.
