Tim Lobinger was a German pole vaulter, born on 3 September 1972, who died on 16 February 2023 at the age of 50. He was an elite competitor from the 1990s, and in 1997 and 1999 he cleared six metres, becoming the first German to join the six metres club. His best medals were silver at the 1998 and 2006 European Athletics Championships, bronze at the 2002 European Championships in Athletics and bronze at the 2006 IAAF World Indoor Championships. Olympic success eluded him, though he finished seventh in Atlanta in 1996, 13th in Sydney in 2000 and eleventh in Athens in 2004. In 1999 he completed a decathlon and cleared 5.76 metres in its pole vault, a decathlon best for the event. He was married to triple jumper Petra Lobinger from 1994 to 2003, and their son Tyger plays as a professional footballer. He was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in March 2017.
