Ted Williams was an American professional baseball outfielder who played his entire career with the Boston Red Sox. Known as "the Splendid Splinter," he was the last major league player to bat over .400 in a season, doing so in 1941, and is remembered as one of the greatest pure hitters in the sport's history despite missing several prime seasons to military service.
