Tazio Nuvolari was an Italian racing driver who lived from 1892 to 1953 and is widely regarded as one of the greatest drivers of the pre-war era of motor racing, competing first on motorcycles before moving to cars. His most famous victory came at the 1935 German Grand Prix at the Nurburgring, where he won driving an outclassed Alfa Romeo against the heavily favored, state-backed Mercedes-Benz and Auto Union teams, a result considered one of the greatest upsets in motor racing history. He raced competitively into his late fifties despite chronic illness and numerous serious accidents over his career, and Ferdinand Porsche is said to have called him the greatest driver of the past, the present and the future.
