Tariku Bekele

Tariku Bekele is an Ethiopian distance runner who won an Olympic bronze medal in the men's 10,000 metres at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. He was born on 28 February 1987 near Bekoji in the Oromiya region of Ethiopia, and he ran for the club Mugher Cement in Addis Ababa. He first appeared at the Olympic Games in 2008, when he competed in the 5,000 metres and finished sixth, and he returned four years later to take the bronze over the longer distance. His personal best for the 5,000 metres, 12:52.45, dates from 2008. He is the brother of Kenenisa Bekele, one of the most successful distance runners in the history of the Olympics, and the two form one of the notable sibling pairs of Ethiopian athletics. He is also recorded as a medallist at the World Athletics Indoor Championships, having won the 3000 metres in Valencia in 2008.
