Football Codes

Stephan El Shaarawy is an Italian professional footballer born on 27 October 1992, who plays as a left winger for the Serie A club Genoa and for the Italy national team. He is nicknamed Il Faraone, meaning The Pharaoh, because his father is Egyptian. He began his career at Genoa and was signed by Milan in 2011 after a successful loan at Padova. He was widely regarded as one of the most promising young players of his generation and had his breakthrough in the first half of the 2012-13 season. After several long spells out through injury, he spent the 2015-16 season on loan at Monaco and then Roma, and joined Roma permanently at the end of that season. In 2019 he moved to the Chinese club Shanghai Greenland Shenhua, returning to Roma eighteen months later. For Italy he played from under-16 to under-21 level, made his senior debut in a friendly against England in August 2012, and scored his first international goal against France that November. He took part in the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup, where Italy finished third, and in UEFA Euro 2016.
