Simona Halep is a Romanian former professional tennis player, born on 27 September 1991. The Women's Tennis Association ranked her world No. 1 in women's singles for 64 weeks, including as year-end No. 1 in 2017 and 2018. She won 25 WTA Tour level titles, among them two majors, the 2018 French Open and the 2019 Wimbledon Championships, and finished runner-up at three other majors. She was a French Open junior champion and a former junior world No. 1, and she stayed in the top 10 for 373 consecutive weeks between 2014 and 2021. She was suspended in October 2022 after a positive test for a banned substance, the ban was reduced in February 2024 to nine months already served, and she retired in 2025. She was the first Romanian woman to be ranked world No. 1 and the first Romanian to win a Wimbledon singles title.
