Shane Gould

Shane Gould, born on 23 November 1956, is an Australian former competition swimmer. At the 1972 Summer Olympics she won three gold medals, a silver medal and a bronze, becoming the first woman swimmer to win five individual medals at one Games. She was born in Australia but spent most of her childhood in Fiji after her family moved there. After her 1972 performance she was named Australian of the Year and received an MBE in 1981, and in April 2018 the Australian Olympic Committee awarded her an Order of Merit. She returned in the 1990s as a swimming mentor and competitor, competing again in 2003 and specializing in the 200 metre individual medley, and in 1999 she published her autobiography Tumble Turns. In 2018 she won the fifth season of Australian Survivor.
