Scott Jurek

Scott Gordon Jurek, born on 26 October 1973, is an American ultramarathoner, author and public speaker who was one of the most dominant ultramarathon runners in the world. He won the Hardrock Hundred in 2007, the Badwater Ultramarathon in 2005 and 2006, the Spartathlon in 2006, 2007 and 2008, and the Western States 100 Mile Endurance Run every year from 1999 to 2005. At the 2010 24-Hour World Championships in Brive-la-Gaillarde, France, he won a silver medal behind Shingo Inoue and set a new United States record of 165.7 miles for distance run in 24 hours. In 2015 he set the Fastest Known Time for the 2,189-mile Appalachian Trail. He has followed a vegetarian diet since 1997 and a vegan diet since 1999.
