Santillana, whose full name is Carlos Alonso González, was born on 23 August 1952 and is a Spanish former professional footballer who played as a striker. He is best known for his long spell at Real Madrid, where after signing in 1971 from Racing de Santander he spent 17 La Liga seasons and played 645 competitive matches. He won more than 50 caps for Spain and represented his country at two World Cups and the same number of European Championships. His career is a clear example of long single-club service at the top level of Spanish football, and he is recorded here under the name by which the football world knows him rather than his full given name.
