Samuel Umtiti

Samuel Yves Umtiti is a former professional footballer who played as a centre-back. He was born in Cameroon on 14 November 1993 and played for the France national team. He began his professional career with the Ligue 1 club Olympique Lyonnais in 2012, winning the Coupe de France and the Trophee des Champions in his first year, and played 170 games for the club, scoring three goals, before a transfer to the La Liga club Barcelona in 2016 for 25 million euros. At Barcelona he won three Copa del Rey titles and two league titles. After a season on loan with Lecce in Italy he returned to France in 2023, joined Lille and retired in 2025. At youth level he earned 47 caps and scored three goals, including a win at the 2013 Under-20 World Cup. He made his senior debut for France at UEFA Euro 2016, where France reached the final, and two years later was part of the squad that won the 2018 FIFA World Cup, scoring the only goal of the semi-final against Belgium.
