Sammy Baugh (17 March 1914 to 17 December 2008), born Samuel Adrian Baugh, was an American professional football quarterback who spent 16 seasons with the Washington Redskins of the National Football League. He also played safety and served as the team punter. He starred at Texas Christian University, where he was a two-time All-American, before the Redskins took him in the first round of the 1937 draft. He won NFL championships with Washington in 1937 and 1942, led the league in completion percentage eight times, and topped it in punting average five times and in defensive interceptions in 1943. He later coached at Hardin-Simmons and professionally with the New York Titans and Houston Oilers, and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1963.
