Sakata Eio was a Japanese professional Go player who lived from 1920 to 2010, born in Tokyo, who reached the ninth and highest professional dan rank and won the Honinbo title in 1961, holding it for seven consecutive years. In 1963 he became the first player to simultaneously hold both the Meijin and Honinbo titles, won seventy two domestic titles in total, the second highest career total in Japanese Go history, and wrote influential instructional books later translated into English.
