Russell Westbrook III, born on November 12, 1988, is an American basketball player who spent eighteen seasons in the National Basketball Association before retiring after the 2026 season. He is regarded as one of the greatest point guards in league history and was known for his agility, intensity and explosive athleticism. Westbrook won the NBA Most Valuable Player Award for the 2016-17 season, was a nine-time All-Star and a nine-time All-NBA selection, led the league in scoring twice and in assists three times, and is one of three players to average a triple-double over a full season, which he did four times. He holds the career record for triple-doubles. After college basketball at UCLA he was drafted fourth overall in 2008 by the Seattle SuperSonics, who became the Oklahoma City Thunder, and he later played for several other franchises. He won gold with the United States at the 2010 FIBA World Championship and the 2012 Olympic Games, and was named to the NBA 75th Anniversary Team in 2021.
