Roman Ildonzo Gabriel Jr., who lived from 5 August 1940 to 20 April 2024, was an American professional football player and a quarterback in the National Football League. He played college football for the NC State Wolfpack, where he earned first-team All-American honors twice. Gabriel was the second overall pick in the 1962 NFL draft and went on to play eleven seasons with the Los Angeles Rams, followed by five seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles. He is notable as the first Filipino-American quarterback in the league and as the first and only Asian American to win the NFL Most Valuable Player award, which he received in 1969.
