Robert Korzeniowski

Robert Marek Korzeniowski (born 30 July 1968) is a Polish former racewalker who won four gold medals at the Olympic Games and three at World Championships. Born in Lubaczow, he is the brother of the Olympic athlete Sylwia Korzeniowska. He won the 50 kilometre walk at three consecutive Olympics, in Atlanta in 1996, Sydney in 2000 and Athens in 2004, and in Sydney he became the first athlete to win both the 50 kilometre and the 20 kilometre walk at a single Games. He took the 50 kilometre world title in 1997, 2001 and 2003 and the European title in 1998 and 2002, and held the world record in the event from 2002 to 2006. After retiring in 2004 he worked with the International Olympic Committee, mentored the record holder Paquillo Fernandez, and led the public Polish channel TVP Sport. He was inducted into the IAAF Hall of Fame in 2014, and a Warsaw race walking cup founded in 2022 is named in his honour.
