Harold "Red" Grange, known as "the Galloping Ghost," was an American football halfback who played college football for Illinois from 1923 to 1925 and professionally for the Chicago Bears and New York Yankees. His exceptional college performances and subsequent barnstorming tours in the 1920s made him a nationally recognized celebrity and significantly raised the profile of professional football at a time the NFL was still establishing itself. He was a charter member of both the College and Pro Football Halls of Fame, and ESPN named him the best college football player of all time in 2008.
