Pirmin Zurbriggen is a Swiss former World Cup alpine ski racer born February 4, 1963, in Saas Almagell, Valais, widely regarded as one of the most successful ski racers ever. He won the overall World Cup title four times, in 1984, 1987, 1988 and 1990, took Olympic gold in the downhill at the 1988 Calgary Games, and earned nine World Championship medals, four gold, four silver and one bronze. Across nine seasons from 1981 to 1990 he won 40 World Cup races with 83 total podium finishes, ranking fifth on the all time World Cup win list, and at age 21 he became the first skier to win World Cup races in all five disciplines after his 1985 Kitzbuhel downhill victory.
