Pierino Antonio Alberto Taruffi, known as Piero Taruffi, was an Italian racing driver, motorcycle road racer, motorsport executive and engineer, born on 12 October 1906 and died on 12 January 1988. He competed in Formula One from 1950 to 1956 for Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, Mercedes, Maserati and Vanwall, won the 1952 Swiss Grand Prix with Ferrari and finished third in that year world drivers championship. He won the 500cc European motorcycle championship in 1932 with Norton, held the motorcycle land speed record for 38 days in 1937, and won the final Mille Miglia in 1957 driving a Ferrari 315 S.
