Philip Ryan, born in 1944 in Dunkerrin, County Offaly, is an Irish former hurler and Gaelic footballer whose championship career as a dual player with the Tipperary senior teams spanned eleven seasons from 1965 until 1975. He was raised in a family with a strong association with Gaelic games: his father Séamus Ó Riain had played junior hurling and football with Tipperary in the 1940s and became President of the Gaelic Athletic Association in 1967, and his brothers Jack, Séamus and Eugene all later played for Tipperary at various levels. Ryan first played with the Moneygall club, winning divisional titles in both codes and back-to-back county senior championship medals in 1975 and 1976. He debuted for Tipperary at twenty with the under-21 and junior football teams and was an All-Ireland under-21 hurling runner-up in 1965.
