Peter Stastny is a Slovak Canadian former professional ice hockey centre, born September 18, 1956, in Bratislava, Czechoslovakia. He defected from communist Czechoslovakia in 1980 with his brother Anton to join the Quebec Nordiques, and went on to score 450 goals and 1,239 career points, becoming the first European born and trained player to reach 1,000 career NHL points. He is the second highest scoring player of the 1980s behind only Wayne Gretzky, was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1998, and later served as a member of the European Parliament for Slovakia from 2004 to 2014.
