Peter Joppich

Peter Joppich is a German foil fencer, born on 21 December 1982, who is a five time World Champion in foil with four individual titles and one team title. He won his first individual world title at twenty-one in Havana in 2003, then took the 2006 title in Turin over Andrea Baldini, the 2007 title in St Petersburg over Baldini again, and the 2010 title in Paris by beating Lei Sheng 15 to 11. He has competed in five Olympic Games, Athens 2004, Beijing 2008, London 2012, Rio de Janeiro 2016 and Tokyo 2021, finishing sixth, fifth, eleventh and twelfth in the four results recorded. He credits his success to the former German fencer and Olympic gold medallist Ulrich Schreck, who coached him for over ten years at the Federal Training Centre in Bonn.
