Pete Kostelnick

Track and Field Disciplines

Pete Kostelnick, born September 12, 1987, is an American ultramarathon runner best known for his world record for the fastest coast-to-coast crossing of the United States on foot, which he set in 2016 by running from San Francisco City Hall to New York City Hall in 42 days, six hours and 30 minutes. That broke the 1980 record of 46 days, eight hours and 36 minutes held by Frank Giannino Jr. Kostelnick ran with a satellite transceiver and two GPS watches, and his team collected witness signatures, video and photographs so that the record could not be questioned. He is a two time Badwater Ultramarathon champion and the fifth fastest North American of all time at the 24-hour run, covering 163.5 miles.
