Pat Delaney, formally Patrick Delaney, was an Irish hurler who lived from 1942 until his death on 19 August 2013 and played as a centre-forward for the Kilkenny senior team. Born in Johnstown, County Kilkenny, he arrived on the inter-county scene at twenty-six with the Kilkenny senior team, making his debut in the 1968 championship, and he played a key part in what has come to be known as one of the greatest teams of all time. He won four All-Ireland medals, six Leinster medals and one National Hurling League medal, was an All-Ireland runner-up on two occasions and captained the team in the Leinster finals of 1969 and 1973. He won five Railway Cup medals with Leinster, and with Fenians he won the Kilkenny Senior Hurling Championship five times. He is identified here as the Kilkenny hurler to tell him apart from other people of the same name.
