Otto Peltzer, born on 8 March 1900 and died on 11 August 1970, was a German middle distance runner who set world records in the 1920s. Over 800 metres he improved the long-standing mark of Ted Meredith by 0.3 seconds, running 1:51.6 in London in July 1926. Over 1000 metres he set a world record of 2:25.8 in Paris in July 1927, and over 1500 metres he broke the record of Paavo Nurmi, setting a new mark of 3:51.0 in Berlin in September 1926. He was the only athlete to have held the 800 metre and 1500 metre world records at the same time, a feat not matched again until Sebastian Coe did so more than fifty years later.
