Ömer Faruk Aşık, born on 4 July 1986, is a Turkish former professional basketball player who played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) and in other leagues. Standing 7 ft 0 in (2.13 m), he was sought after by many of the top Euroleague teams at the age of 19. He began his professional career with the Turkish Basketball League club Fenerbahçe in 2005-06, spent one season with Alpella, and then returned to Fenerbahçe, where he ended his Turkish club career in 2009-10. He gained wide recognition with the Turkey national team at the 2010 FIBA World Championship, where, as the starting center, he helped Turkey win the silver medal. In July 2010 he signed with the Chicago Bulls, where commentator Stacey King nicknamed him The Turkish Hammer and Aşık the Destroyer.
