Nie Weiping was a Chinese professional Go player who lived from 1952 to 2026, holding the 9 dan rank achieved in 1982. He won the World Amateur Go Championship in 1979, the Ing Cup in 1988, the Fujitsu Cup in 1990, and six National Go Individual titles. He became famous for leading China to victory over Japan in the China-Japan Supermatches, earning the nickname Steel Goalkeeper, and received the title Qi Sheng, or Go Sage, in 1988.
