Nesta Carter

Track and Field Disciplines

Nesta Carter is a Jamaican retired sprinter who specialized in the 100 metres. He was part of the Jamaican 4 x 100 metres relay team that took gold and set successive world records at the 2011 World Championships and the 2012 London Olympics, won relay silver at the 2007 World Championships and relay gold at the 2015 World Championships, and in 2013 won an individual 100 m World Championship bronze medal in Moscow behind Justin Gatlin and Usain Bolt. In August 2010 he became the fifth sprinter to run the 100 metres in under 9.8 seconds, and his personal best of 9.78 ranks twelfth on the all-time list. In January 2017 the International Olympic Committee sanctioned him for doping at the 2008 Olympic Games, so his team lost its relay gold medals from that Games. He announced his retirement in August 2021.
