Janne Petteri Ahonen is a Finnish former ski jumper who also raced as a drag racer. He competed in ski jumping from 1992 until 2018, a career of more than a quarter of a century, and is counted among the most successful athletes the sport has produced and among the most successful from Finland. His record includes two consecutive World Cup overall titles, five wins in the Four Hills Tournament, which is a record, two individual gold medals at the World Championships and one win in the Nordic Tournament. He is nicknamed Kuningaskotka, meaning King Eagle. He has also been described as the greatest ski jumper never to win an individual medal at the Winter Olympics, which gives his career an unusual shape: dominance in the World Cup and the major tournaments without an Olympic individual podium.

Despite his success, Ahonen struggled at the Olympic arena by never winning an individual Olympic medal, placing fourth three times (in 1998, 2002 and 2010 in normal hill), winning only two team silvers (2002 and 2006).
