Marcello Lippi, born on 12 April 1948, is an Italian former professional footballer and former manager who led the Italy national team to victory at the 2006 FIFA World Cup. He was appointed Italy head coach in the summer of 2004 and again in 2008, and he was succeeded by Cesare Prandelli after a disappointing showing at the 2010 FIFA World Cup. As a club manager he won five Serie A titles, one Coppa Italia, four Italian Supercups, one UEFA Champions League and one UEFA Super Cup, and in China he won three Chinese Super League titles, a Chinese FA Cup and the AFC Champions League. He is the only coach to have won both the UEFA Champions League and the AFC Champions League. The International Federation of Football History and Statistics named him the world's best football manager in 1996 and 1998 and the world's best national coach in 2006.
