Luol Deng

Luol Deng is a South Sudanese and British former professional basketball player, born on 16 April 1985 in what was then part of Sudan. He fled the country with his family as a child and eventually settled in the United Kingdom, becoming a British citizen in 2006 and later playing for the Great Britain national team. After college basketball at Duke he was selected by the Phoenix Suns with the seventh overall pick in the 2004 NBA draft, was named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team in 2005, and became a two-time NBA All-Star with the Chicago Bulls in 2012 and 2013, also earning a place on the NBA All-Defensive Second Team in 2012. He later played for the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat, Los Angeles Lakers and Minnesota Timberwolves. Since 2019 he has been president of the South Sudan Basketball Federation and has worked as an assistant coach of the South Sudan men's national team.
