Lukas Podolski, born Łukasz Józef Podolski on 4 June 1985, is a former professional footballer who played as a striker or left winger. Born in Poland, he moved to Germany at the age of two and played for the German national team, for which he made 130 appearances and scored 49 goals. He was part of the squad at seven major tournaments and won the 2014 FIFA World Cup, and in 2013 he scored the fastest goal in Germany national team history, after just nine seconds against Ecuador. At club level he began at 1. FC Köln, won the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal double with Bayern Munich in 2008, then played for Arsenal, where he won the FA Cup in 2014, Inter Milan on loan, Galatasaray, Vissel Kobe, Antalyaspor and finally Górnik Zabrze in Poland. He was known for his powerful and accurate left foot and explosive shooting. He retired from international football in 2017 and from professional football in 2026.
