Lucien Laurent (10 December 1907 to 11 April 2005) was a French footballer who played as a forward. Playing for France at the 1930 FIFA World Cup, he scored the first ever FIFA World Cup goal, in the match against Mexico. The goal makes him one of the most frequently cited figures in the early history of the tournament, and he lived to the age of 97, long enough to see the competition grow from thirteen teams in Uruguay into the largest event in world sport.
