Lidiya Skoblikova

Lidiya Skoblikova is a retired Russian speed skater born in 1939 in Zlatoust who competed at three Winter Olympics, in 1960, 1964 and 1968. She won six career gold medals, a record she shares with Dutch speed skater Ireen Wust, taking gold in the 1500 and 3000 meters at the 1960 Squaw Valley Games and sweeping all four events, 500, 1000, 1500 and 3000 meters, at the 1964 Innsbruck Games. She was the first athlete to win six Winter Olympic gold medals and the first to win four at a single Winter Games, and won 25 gold medals and two world all-round titles, in 1963 and 1964, at the World Championships. After retiring in 1969 she earned a PhD in history and served twelve years as president of the Russian Skating Federation.
