Laurent Jalabert, born on 30 November 1968, is a French former professional road racing cyclist who competed from 1989 to 2002. Known affectionately as Jaja, a nickname that came from his habit of drinking wine as a professional and the similarity to his name, he won many one-day races and stage races and was ranked number one in the world in 1995, 1996, 1997 and 1999. He never won the Tour de France, where he suffered altitude sickness, but he won the Vuelta a Espana in 1995 and took the leader's jersey, the sprinter's jersey and the climber's jersey in the same race, only the third rider to do so in a Grand Tour. He is one of only six riders to win the points classification in all three Grand Tours, and as the 1995 Vuelta winner he is the last French winner of any of the three Grand Tours. A French Senate investigation in 2013 proved his use of EPO.
