Kong Jie is a Chinese professional Go player born on November 25, 1982, in Beijing. He turned professional in 1994 at age twelve and reached 9 dan, becoming known in China as the King of Tsumego for his skill at life and death problems. He won the Samsung Cup in 2009, the LG Cup and Fujitsu Cup in 2010, and the Asian TV Cup in 2009, 2010 and 2011, reaching his peak between 2009 and 2010 when he was widely regarded as the world's strongest Go player before newer professionals rose to challenge him.
