Kirsty Coventry is a Zimbabwean former competitive swimmer born September 16, 1983, in Harare, widely regarded as the most decorated African Olympian of all time. Across five Olympic Games from 2000 to 2016 she won seven Olympic medals, including gold in the 200 metre backstroke at both the 2004 Athens and 2008 Beijing Games, and at Beijing she was the only member of Zimbabwe's delegation to medal, helping the country reach its highest-ever Olympic medal count. She later served as Zimbabwe's Minister of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation from 2018 to 2025, and became president of the International Olympic Committee on June 23, 2025.
