Kenenisa Bekele is an Ethiopian long distance runner, born in 1982, who held the world records in both the 5,000 metres and 10,000 metres from 2004 until 2020 and has run a marathon personal best of 2:01:41 in Berlin in 2019. He won Olympic gold in the 10,000 metres at both the 2004 Athens and 2008 Beijing Games and added 5,000 metre gold in Beijing, and he won four consecutive world championship titles in the 10,000 metres between 2003 and 2009, becoming the first man to win both the 5,000 and 10,000 metres at the same world championships in 2009. He is the most successful runner in the history of the IAAF World Cross Country Championships, with eleven individual gold medals.
