Kelvin Ransey is an American professional basketball player who was born on May 3, 1958, in Toledo, Ohio. A right-handed point guard listed at 6 feet 1 inch and 170 pounds, he attended Macomber-Whitney High School in Toledo and played college basketball at Ohio State University. The Chicago Bulls selected him fourth overall in the first round of the 1980 NBA draft, and he made his National Basketball Association debut on October 12, 1980. His NBA career lasted six seasons, from 1980 to 1986, and he appeared in 474 regular season games for the Portland Trail Blazers, the Dallas Mavericks and the New Jersey Nets. He was named to the NBA All-Rookie team for 1980-81, a season in which he averaged 15.2 points and 6.9 assists for Portland, and over his career he averaged 11.4 points, 1.9 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game. He won no NBA championships.
