He is widely regarded as the greatest professional surfer of all time and holds fifty six Championship Tour victories. He has won the Laureus World Sports Awards Action Sportsperson of the Year four times plus a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2025, and remains the oldest surfer still active on the World Surf League tour, having won his eighth Billabong Pipeline Masters title at age forty nine.
