Karlheinz Förster (born 25 July 1958) is a German former professional footballer who played as a central defender. The younger brother of the defender Bernd Förster, he was regarded as one of the best man-markers in the world at his peak and spent most of his career at VfB Stuttgart alongside Bernd, winning the 1983-84 Bundesliga with them before Olympique de Marseille bought him in 1986 for 3.5 million Deutsche Mark. At Marseille he helped the side win the double in his third year, and he retired at nearly 32 to become a player agent. For West Germany he won 81 caps from 1978, played every match of the victorious Euro 1980, played every minute of the 1982 World Cup in which his side finished runner-up, and appeared again at Euro 1984 and the 1986 World Cup, where West Germany again took second place.
